CRISPIN LEWIS. (Musical director from the 136th season). Crispin Lewis currently works principally as a conductor. He has also performed professionally as a violinist, baroque violinist, solo singer, choral singer and keyboard continuo player. Crispin is the conductor of The Musicall Compass, Welwyn Garden City Chorus, Thurrock Choral Society and Luton Choral Society.

Crispin has directed orchestral, operatic and choral repetoires at London venues including Wigmore Hall, the Royal Opera House, Linbury Studio, Christ Church Spitalfields, the South Bank Centre - Purcell Room, St. John's Smith Square, St. James' Piccadilly, St. Martin-in-the-fields and St Giles' Cripplegate. Whilst a post-graduate student at the Royal College of Music he founded The Musicall Compass, a specialist baroque ensemble comprising chorus, period instruments and soloists. He has directed them live on BBC Radio 3 and in concert and staged performances of 17th and 18th century operas, masques, oratorios and cantatas, as well as in newly composed works. He is regularly engaged as a guest conductor by symphony orchestras, baroque orchestras and choirs.
